Setting TAR as the default format

When creating a backup of your WordPress website, we use the zip file format as our default.

The zip file format has a few limitations, so for your migrations to be as smooth as possible, even when you’re migrating much with larger WordPress sites, we switch the archive file format to TAR.

Why switch the file format?

On some hosting providers or servers, the zip file size limit is smaller than others. To combat this you can switch to TAR as the default file format when backing up your WordPress site.

By selecting this option, the default backup file format switches to TAR
