Using FTP as your Migration Method
When you have selected FTP as your migration method. We will need three main pieces of information:
Your FTP details:
These consist of;
- FTP host name, server name or IP address.
- FTP Username
- FTP Password
We won’t show you exactly where to get these details from in this guide, as the creation of your FTP details differ slightly between hosting providers. Although we have a list of hosting guides which we add to regularly. If you can’t find a guide for your hosting provider. Please contact support and one will be created for you.
Migrate specific folders:
You can also select, specific folders to only be migrated. e.g If you just want to migrate the plugins directory and a specific theme directory.
FTP Path / Directory:
We automatically search for your correct FTP path, to install your WordPress site. Once you have found your correct directory then click on the continue button.
Exclude the Database with your migration
We also give you the option to exclude the database from your WordPress migration.
Database Details:
The the following are required details:
- Database Name
- Database User
- Database Password
Your database details may vary between hosting providers, so we will not tell you exactly how to get your database details, but you can find more in-depth details on how to get your database details in our hosting guides.
Database Host:
The database host is not a required field as we default the database host to localhost. If your database host is not localhost – enter it in the Database Host field.
e.g. In this example our database host is db999555.hosting-data.io so can not leave it blank, in order for us to correctly validate your database details.
Database Port:
If your database port is not 3306 then you can enter your database port by adding the database port to your database host separated by a colon like this {databasehost}:{databaseport}, as shown in the image below.
For your migration to run as smoothly as possible we validate all of your database details before we start your WordPress migration.
Start your Migration:
Click on the “Start Migration” button to start your migration, you will be notified once it has completed.
